What happened? After the death of our family dog, my children wanted a new one. I was made aware of a website that connected those making their dog available for adoption. After agreeing to adopt and paying the owner some cash fees, several days later I was contacted by the earlier owner. She wanted me and my daughters to return the dog she allowed us to adopt and become emotionally attached. After I refused her request to give her the dog after I’ve also spent hundreds of dollars for care. She launched a full-scale harassment and smear campaign. Her campaign was to force me to return the dog and eat 100% of the cost to adopt and care for the dog, including the cash she received from me personally. She drove by my home and took pictures to send as a threat; she messaged me through my workplace to threaten harm by way of her associates. She also called and texted threats to me.
What would you like to see happen? I’d like to see something akin to an insurance fund or dedicated fund that compensates victims of crime and damage caused by individuals with certified mental illnesses.
How do you think others can help? I think all of us can help by requesting more interventions to protect the public from people with psychotic behaviors that are used for perpetual personal attacks.
