What happened? After aging out of the Police Athletic League (PAL) affiliated TSU-cheer program I came back as a volunteer coach. Everything was going well until an altercation outside of the program involving the son of the cheer program director. After the encounter with the son, I sought a personal protection order that was granted. When I returned to the program for my volunteering time, I was told that because I had gotten a PPO on the director’s son-I couldn’t be involved in the program. This exclusion occurred without any written policy or independent review process, leaving me without recourse and undermining the support for youth enrichment.
What would you like to see happen? I’d like to see written policies and independent involvement in final decisions on exclusions.
How do you think others can help? I want others to ask for psychological safety and equal justice for women.
