Foster Care Provider Answers 3

What happened? For over 25 years I’ve opened my home to foster children, yet when many of them “age out”—even with Michigan’s Young Adult Voluntary Foster Care program extending support to age 21—they still confront trauma, disabilities, and a lack of practical tools for advocacy or human guidance once formal services end.
What would you like to see happen? I’d like to see more embedding of human-in-the-loop care: including auto-enrolling every youth aging out of foster care with a dedicated formatter and shipper of their firsthand answers about what they experience adults and parents.
How do you think others can help? I think others can strengthen the firsthand database by sharing their own journeys accessing local services. We know that connected people with answers can join problem-solvers and drive better service models and policy changes.
