What happened? I went to the Kroger on Michigan Ave in Dearborn, and as I was getting my receipt this young cocky female employee runs up and tells me I didn’t scan a product. It was humiliating, being publicly accused of theft when you’ve done nothing wrong can feel like a violation of trust and dignity. And when it happens in a place I’ve shopped regularly, it’s even more personal. The conclusion was that I had already scanned the product and I’m calling out the approach as aggressive and presumptive, and it left me feeling disrespected.
What would you like to see happen? I’d like to see better training for employees and plainly stated policies for auditing if items being scanned were scanned.
How do you think others can help? Others can help by making their displeasure and complaints known on sites like yelp and mate3.com- If enough voices speak up, policies change.
