What happened? Over years of requests, McDonald Square Apartments has operated with too few trash containers, causing overflow, litter, and health risks for residents. This falls short of Detroit’s refuse-disposal requirements, which mandate that properties provide and maintain adequate, approved solid-waste containers.
What would you like to see happen? I want the City of Detroit (DPW) or the Health Department to enforce Chapter 42 of Detroit’s Code of Ordinances, requiring McDonald Square to install a sufficient number of properly sized and labeled containers, ensure weekly pickup, and issue violations for noncompliance under the Solid Waste and Illegal Dumping provisions.
How do you think others can help? I’d like to see other witnesses take dated photos of overflowing or missing containers, then submit complaints via the Improve Detroit app or website. You can also contact BSEED Environmental Enforcement at (313) 876-0426 or DPW at (313) 876-0004 to report the issue.
